K-to-12 Veteran
Senior High School Principal Erwin Dionisio is confident that FEU Alabang is ready to take on the challenge to produce highly-skilled and self-directed Senior High School students who will be significant contributors to nation building.
This confidence comes from her 21 years of experience in the academe highlighted by her recognition as Outstanding Teacher at Meralco Foundation Institute for five consecutive years. She was immersed in the development of the K-to-12 curriculum long before it was fully implemented in the country.
Principal Dionisio worked relentlessly with teachers handling different strands and specializations to create a curriculum that is aligned with the requirements of their industry partners and the local educational system.
“My transition to the K-to-12 system did not only make a difference to my outside enterprise, which is the education industry, but also made a difference in me. It empowered me. I became more purposeful and allowed me to focus my energies on transforming the life of students and the educational system in the Philippines.”
A Well-designed SHS Curriculum
This focus was valuable in creating the curriculum for the SHS Program of FEU Alabang. “The curriculum is designed carefully to align with their chosen field of specialization in Higher Education. We also included students’ research as one focus of our curriculum.”
They also embraced the reality that the incoming batch of SHS students are all digital natives, which is why they decided to incorporate the use of technology in the delivery of lessons.
Keeping Communication Lines Open
Dionisio also believes in keeping the communication lines open among students, parents, and faculty as it is key in resolving problems that may arise in the implementation of K-to12.
“We have put together an Intervention Program for students to properly guide them in their chosen strand. I believe that giving students our extra time will help them be more focused and be more disciplined.”
Coordination with parents is also important because they help ensure that our students are guided and monitored even after they leave the school.
Principal Dionisio is grateful for this opportunity to build a SHS program for FEU Alabang. It is equally exciting and challenging for her.
“Handling SHS students is undoubtedly challenging, yet in the end it gives me fulfillment knowing that I can contribute to their development and success in their studies and later on, success in their lives.”
